Scott + Reid completed construction of an 11-story, pre-cast parking garage in downtown Houston. The project consisted of 310 parking spaces, an elevator and open air staircase. As the garage is located in a Historic District, the project required heavy involvement with the City of Houston to navigate special processes for building in the area. In addition, constrained by a limited build site, the team worked diligently to maintain safety during surrounding traffic control and necessary lane closures.
To mitigate additional costs associated with placement of the power transformer in a flood-proof room, the team negotiated an alternative solution with the power provider. The result was a pad mounted transformer on the roof, saving the owner time and money.
Meticulous organization and scheduling was of utmost importance when working on a tight site without any lay down space in downtown Houston. In addition, delayed responses from the city related to historic renovations added two months to the overall schedule. In spite of these constraints, the team delivered the project to the satisfaction of the client.
