Interfaith Family Services (IFS) selected a general contractor in November of 2017 to construct two new buildings on their property. Following months of delay with no activity due to issues with the contractor’s lending, IFS sought another firm to perform the scope. Scott + Reid came highly recommended by My Possibilities, a fellow non-profit organization, with whom they had partnered on for similar work.
Both buildings are three stories, constructed of steel, metal stud framing, and a mix of brick and stucco siding. The exterior project scope included over 29,000 square feet of pavement, including 61 parking spaces, a circular drive with colored concrete and two additional property entryways. Scott + Reid added complete utilities with an underground detention and drainage system. Booster pumps were installed to assist with water pressure for the sprinkler and domestic systems. Canopies connect the two new structures to the original building.
To support the need for affordable, extended hours childcare, Building B is used as a family empowerment and childcare center. It is outfitted with childcare classrooms, a library, computer lab, play therapy rooms, two full-size kitchens with pantries and an outdoor playground. The new structure allows the client to provide year-round programming for children ages 0 to 18.
Building C is an adult education center meant to teach poverty-stricken adults key life skills for future success. This facility consists of a community service and training center for parent and family education, multiple classrooms, a living skills room, multi-purpose room, conference rooms, a resource room, work room and lounge area. Additional amenities include a full-service training kitchen, fitness center and boutique.
Security being of utmost importance, both buildings are equipped with high-tech security and camera monitoring systems, as well as card readers at all building, stairwell and elevator entry points.
