LJA Engineering is an employee-owned, full-service consulting engineering firm serving public and private sectors. This client’s rapid growth in the North Texas market led to contracting Scott + Reid for the remodel of their 27,307-square-foot Dallas, Texas office.

Collaborative open workspace and multiple huddle rooms facilitate efficiency and communication while simultaneously providing a balance of private office space to support the work process. Furthermore, a specialized training center was constructed to accommodate over 50 people and finished with custom felt baffles for sound attenuation.

A unique focal point of the space is the use of a Dallas roadmap graphic, paying homage to the office locale and its expanding market. Additional design highlights include open-to-deck ceilings, frosted glass office fronts, resawn wood accents, polished concrete flooring, custom banquette seating, and a premium lighting package including cast, linear, and accent lights. The end result is a sleek, modern space that will accommodate this client’s current and future growth plans.

Excellent communication and coordination at the field level ensured the project team overcame numerous obstacles, including a difficult MEP installation. Conflict between the mechanical design and available space between the ceiling and deck required the Scott + Reid team to work closely with the engineer to rework the mechanical layout, without sacrificing the originally designed ceiling heights and accents. Additional challenges included adherence to new safety measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and meeting the firm, accelerated 14-week schedule.

Upon the successful completion of this project, Scott + Reid was awarded the interior remodel of LJA Engineering’s headquarters in West Houston.
